How do you push a new key/value element into an associative array using an html form?

I suspect there's more to your question than meets my eye, but....

$arrayName['desiredKeyName'] = $valueFromForm;

Once you do this...

$ages["$_REQUEST["age"]] = '$_REQUEST["hobby"]';

...you've already either added a new key/value pair to the array, or else overwritten the value if there was already an element with that key, so there's nothing to be "pushed" onto the array. Perhaps we need an explanation of what it is you are trying to do (assuming that does not really answer your question)?

You use single quotes ! When using single quotes, the contents won't be interpretated by PHP... so replace this line...

$ages["$_REQUEST["age"]] = '$_REQUEST["hobby"]';

... by this one (some double quotes have been removed because they were unuseful) ...

$ages[$_REQUEST["age"]] = $_REQUEST["hobby"];

I made an error in the syntax, I can process the info from the form thereby adding the new element pair to the array however the next user from the form pages info simply overwrites the previous set of data, I was under the impression that if you use the function array_push the previous data as well as any new data from the form would be retained in the array in an ongoing fashion, if this is not the case how can it be achieved without resorting to writing to a data file or data base.
