How to find IP range

Hi.

Is it possible using php to find the IP block that a partucular IP belongs in?

E.g. I can go to dnsstuff.org and type the IP address 209.126.158.167. This comes back with an IP range of

209.126.0.0 to 209.127.255.255

Is it possible to do this using PHP?

I think if you did this in .htaccess it might work

209.12..*

Not sure about PHP since it doesn't use the same wildcard method .htaccess does

The IP range:

209.126.0.0 to 209.127.255.255

actually shows the IP block assigned to the ISP that owns that block of addresses.

I doubt theres a function for that. Such information updates daily and one would need access to the database that keeps track of it.

Look around and see if anyone offers a database you can import to mysql. Then use PHP to find out.

Oh and find a way to keep that database updated 🙂

p.s - You might be able to form a query string and query dnsstuff.org or whatever and use the returned value for your purpose too?

Remotely querying dnsstuff.org is against their TOS.

I guess I have my work cut out for me getting the database to use.
