Okay. Installing Apache 2.2.4 and PHP on my XP machine.
Installed Apache with no problems. Fine, happiness, joy, fantastic. The http://localhost/ command takes me to a page which simply reads
It works!
...and you can't ask for more than that.
Problem comes with installing PHP, which is the latest version - 5.2.1. Self installing version, not the zipped file. I've been working under the assumption that this bells-and-whistles self-installer puts all the various files where they need to go. When asked for Apache's configuration path, I gave it ...\Apache 2.2\conf.
I've made an index.php file in the DocumentRoot path, running the basic, ubiquitous phpinfo(); command. However, now when I run http://localhost/ I get to a HTTP 403 page: "The website declined to show this webpage"
What gives?
EDIT: I've configured Zonealarm to give Apache full access everywhere, in case that makes any difference.
EDIT2: For the record, I installed all the features that come with PHP 5.2.1 during setup. For better or for worse. 😉 What the hell - even in its entirely it's tiny.
Thanks for your time,
Steve
