Problems Coding for first time

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post and I have recently bought a book on PHP5 so am trying to learn how to code for myself.

I have followed the beginning steps on downloading and setting up Apache, MySQL and PHP...however when running through the first example it doesnt seem to work.

I have got http://localhost which comes up all ok...however when trying to do the examples of Hello World or Configuration all Ok nothing comes up on screen.

I have attached these files, could someone let me know where I have gone wrong.

The attached files are as .txt files but this is only so that I could upload them, I am trying to run them as .php files.

Note: You really should post in the newbie section of the forums, you'll receive quicker and more concise attention there.

Perhaps something was incorrectly setup on your server. Did you use the self installer from php.net or manually install php?

Try this:

<?php 
phpinfo();
?>

Then see if it displays all your configuration and server settings.

I have had a look at the code you asked me to try, however it also comes up as a blank page.

I downloaded the PHP software from www.php.net and just ran the Setup.exe

file to run through the installation.

If you want I can send you through the step by step diagram of what I did

and you could see where I have gone wrong.
