[PHP4] put extra files in $_FILES

hey

i'm starting with php and i have a 'serious' problem.

I'm a programmer (student) but don't have much knowledge of php and i have to write a script to transfer files from one site to another.

And the sites don't support ftp from the internet.

So i have to transfer them through http.

I though maybe it would be possible to put the files in $_FILES and then on the other site upload them.

But is it possible to put extra files (without a form) in $_FILES and send that to an other site. (with a form it is possible)

for example:

site 1 has a folder called: ../docs/1234.pdf

site 2 has a folder called: ../pdf/

and the files from site 1 has to go to site 2

Has anyone a solution for this.

You might be able to get your proposed method to work, but there are easier ways.

Check out the cURL functions—they're specifically designed for establishing and managing HTTP sessions directly from PHP. You'll want to start with curl_init() to instantiate a new session, then use curl_setopt() to set the necessary options (such as setting the request method to POST), and finally use curl_exec() to execute the HTTP request.

I've never used cURL to handle file uploads, but it looks like you'll be interested in the CURLOPT_INFILE option, among others. (See the documentation for curl_setopt() for a complete description of the available options.)

Better yet, get the remote host to enable SSH/SCP, SFTP, or WebDAV. Those protocols are designed for this sort of thing; HTTP is not.
