accent characters lost in echo

Hi.. I am just curious, is there a solution to this?

If I echo french characters: "d'expériences" something like that.. It appears as "d'exp?riences"

Is there a way to get around having to html character code each and every accent mark? Because that would be a bit too tedious for me.

Yep. Use the correct character encoding.

You are serving your webpages with no or an other encoding specified, than you used for editing the page. In your case you probably want to set the encoding to UTF8, as you are using non-standard codes.

Test this: In your browser (No clue which you have) look for 'character encoding' (Possibly under the view menu) and change it to the diferent encodings, and see how the page is shown.

You cannot ask your user to do this pbviously, so, as part of valid (x)html you should specify the ENCODING keyword.

It is happening because of the encoding specified for the page and/or whether the font used can actually display said character. Have a look at iconv functions to learn more about converting character set encoding. read the user notes.
