Remove Item From Array

Been looking around on how to remove an item from an array, and so far i've not seen anything i like.

Any examples or ideas best to tackle this issue, i need the item totally removing, without a gab in the array, as i will be using the implode fuction afterwards.

there are a variety of functions

where in the array.. the beginning, the middle or the end?

if u know the position u can use:

unset($array['key'])

unset($array['value'])

to remove an item from the beginning use: array_shift();
to remove an item from the end use: array_pop();

If removing an arbitrary array element, you can use array_values to re-index it:

unset($array[$ix]);   // remove element $ix
$array = array_values($array);  // renumber the remaining elements

That's best, but to expand: if the only thing that is going to be done with the array afterwards is a traversal over the values or something else that doesn't depend on the keys themselves (such as an implosion) then it's not necessary; array_values() preserves the array values' order.

Good point, as you can almost always use a foreach($a as $i=>$v) loop instead of a for($i=0;$i<count($a):$i++) loop.
