reading EXIF & IPTC data segments and creating XML

I have a lot of photos cataloged using the standards: EXIF & IPTC data segments.

I would ultimately like to find a tutorial (for php 4.4) that reads information from several directories on my server then creates an XML file. Is this easy enough to learn?

I am not familiar with any tutorial that meets your specific needs, however.

Therefore, I would suggest taking a look here:

Reading directory contents:

function: is_dir()
function: opendir()
function: readdir()

XML:

php + xml

for writing/saving the XML file, you may need to use the following:

function: fopen()
function: fwrite() OR file-put-contents()
and... fclose()

My problem stems from putting it all together. Im much better at other technologies. I cant understand which is the best for the job when it comes to php. If you use opendir to view the files, why not use glob? so is the order
1. opendir
2. readdir
3. something here to read the EXIF & IPTC data segments
4. fwrite to create the XML file
Is that right? How am I to take the EXIF & IPTC data out?
