order by issue (postgresql)

hi everyone,

I have a problem to create a query to order three fields. Something like this:

select prefix,field1,year from table order by prefix desc,field1 desc,year desc;

but this what i got:

prefix | field1 | year
---+------------+------------
GI | 736 | 2007
GI | 735 | 2007
BA | 226 | 2007
BA | 223 | 2006
BA | 221 | 2007
AG | 685 | 2007
AG | 684 | 2004
AG | 683 | 2007

What i must to do to fix this order by?

The result is according to how you do the order by in the query. How do you want it to be ordered? It is completely impossible to know that from just a query and the result. Post the result as you want it ordered and I'm sure that someone can help you out.

You already are ordering by year, but that is done after field1. When ordering first use the column that you want to be ordered by first, then next and so on. In this case it should be prefix, year, field1.
