completely automated login (http authentication)?

Hello,
We want to be able to get into a password-protected directory with php
completely automated, and therefor avoid the http_authentication login-box.
(and stay logged in)

So in short: automated http_authentication runtime login with php........

Can this be done? Is there a script/example out there for this?

I searched for hours now.....
so any help is very welcome

You can use curl to authenticate and get authenticated pages from servers. It won't authenticate the client browser, but your server. You can serve the contents, which your server gets from authenticated pages, to the client.

the exact issue i mention here? i couldnt find it........

PEAR HTTP_Request is useful for making basic http authentication:

thx el_timm & wilku, but both need access to the server, which i have very limited.......
isnt it correct that curl and pear both need changes on the server?

Isnt there a way to authenticate the client browser? by cookies or so?
Since the whole idea is that one stays logged in in that directory
without an include in each file. So, in other words, really authenticated for that directory.

Ok, i tried both options now: curl and pear.
both do NOT do what i want: i want to stay logged in in a certain
directory, no matter what file i want there: the same as after i entered
the username and password into the basic authentication login-popup.

pear and curl just retrieves content into a variable.

does anyone know of a way to achieve this?
(client-authentication?)
