[RESOLVED] Please Help! RewriteRule htaccess...

Hi guys,

I had my htaccess file to turn rewrite engine on, but its not working how i wont 🙁

Please could someone advice on how to do this...

site.com/dir/index.php?cat=dogs&page=2

I would like the above to appear as: site.com/dir/dogs/2.html

I would also like the following:

site.com/dir/more.php?cat=dogs&id=3&dog=labrador

The above i would like to appear as:

site.com/dir/dogs/3/labrador.html

As you can see, both the "index.php" and "more.php" files are in the same dir, so i do not know how to write this in the htaccess file.

Please, any help would be great. What i try just isnt working.

Here's my (untested) guess:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^dir/(.+)/([0-9]+)/(.+)\.html$ /dir/more.php?cat=$1&id=$2&dog=$3 [L]
RewriteRule ^dir/(.+)/([0-9]+)\.html$ /dir/index.php?cat=$1&page=$2 [L]

mate, that works perfect apart from one thing...

This page works perfect:

site.com/dir/dogs/1.html

BUT

if a user types the address themselves, without the 1.html, it dosnt work:

site.com/dir/dogs/

Like most people would type... How would i solve this??

It's basicly removing the last varible?

site.com/dir/index.php?cat=dogs&page=2
to
site.com/dir/index.php?cat=dogs

My .htaccess file now looks like this:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^{(.+)/([0-9]+)/(.+).html$} more.php?cat=$1&ID=$2&name=$3 [L]
RewriteRule ^{(.+)/([0-9])(.html)?$} index.php?cat=$1&page=1 [L]
RewriteRule ^{(.+)/([0-9]+).html$} index.php?cat=$1&page=$2 [L]
AddHandler application/x-httpd-php .php

The line you gave me dosnt seem to do anything, unless i am using it wrong.

Any help on getting this last thing done would be really appreciated.

Well... it'd be really easy to do this:

RewriteRule ^dir/(.+)/([0-9]+)/(.+)\.html$ /dir/more.php?cat=$1&id=$2&dog=$3 [L]
RewriteRule ^dir/(.+)/(([0-9]+)\.html)?$ /dir/index.php?cat=$1&page=$3 [L]

That way, if you visited http://yoursite.com/dir/dogs/ (trailing slash required with the current pattern!), you'd be directed to /dir/index.php?cat=dogs&page= .

'page' would therefore be a NULL string, which you can easily detect and ignore in your index.php script.

If i wanted to mod rewrite this:

[url]http://w*w.yoursite.com/index.php?[/url]cat=dogs&page=3

to this: [url]http://ww.yoursite.com/[/url]dogs/3.html
or: [url]http://ww.yoursite.com/[/url]dogs (no slash) (null $page recognised in php)
or: [url]http://w*w.yoursite.com/[/url]dogs/ (with slash) (null $page recognised in php)

How would i do it???

Then in the same htaccess file, also allow for the following "more.php" page:

http://www.yoursite.com/more.php?cat=dogs&id=5&dog=labrador

to be: [url]http://ww.yoursite.com/[/url]dogs/3/labrador.html
or: [url]http://ww.yoursite.com/[/url]dogs/3/labrador/
or: [url]http://w*w.yoursite.com/[/url]dogs/3/labrador

RewriteRule ^([a-z]+)/([0-9]+)/([a-z]+)(\.html|/)?$ more.php?cat=$1&id=$2&dog=$3 [L]
