i am looking for a good step by step tutorial on how to create a user login system using php and mysql. i have been thru several, but the scripts are cumbersome or old.

i am looking to create a user login system that has privilages and user registration, with restrictions to certian areas. any help that can be offered, i thank you.

A good book to get is 'PHP and MYSQL web development ' (Welling and Thomson)(loads of good tutorials and a good way to ease yourself into somthing like this).

A good basic starting point is Kevin Yank's Sitepoint article. It will get you started with a robust system that you can extend with additional privilege control by just adding them to the SESSION vars alongside those that Kevin uses.
