[RESOLVED] required field on form

How can I require the following field in the submit form to be filled out?

You can either do it before or after form submission.

Before would be using Javascript (search for form validation) and after you'd check to see whether the value of $_POST variable is non-empty and if it is empty send them back to the same page.

It's best to use both in case people have javascript disabled in their browsers.

Try adding this to the mkdir.php page. (Before everything else)

$name = trim($_POST['username']);
if (empty($name)) {
die ("You need to enter your name!");
}

Better would be

if(!isset($_POST['username']) || strlen(trim($_POST['username']))==0)
{
}

Because $_POST['username'] may not exist and you'll need to check that before going any further. Using empty() instead of strlen()==0 may be acceptable in this case because you probably don't want people saying that their name is "0" (but it still allows people to say that their name is "17").

Thankyou guys. I love you!!!! I've found all sorts of forms out there that talk about validation stuff. But it was way to confusing to me to take what they showed and apply it to my form that was already made.
