[RESOLVED] "Resolved" Thread Question

Does marking a thread [RESOLVED] do anything other than change the title of the topic? If so, can we simply change the name of the topic manually by editing the first post?

I use NoScript for Firefox (which blocks Javascript), and there doesn't seem to be a way to access the "Mark Thread Resolved" link without having Javascript enabled. Enabling Javascript causes problems with the preview function, for me, so I leave it off.

No, adding [RESOLVED] to the thread title is all that happens (it's a convenience measure for people who are searching); however, editing the first post's heading doesn't change the title of the thread, only that of the post.

I guess what ought to be done is add the "Mark this thread resolved" link to the unscripted version of the Thread Tools list.

Last night I had Firefox lock up a few times when I was previewing a post. I disabled Javascript and it stopped locking up. shrugs If the only way to mark the thread resolved is to use the drop-down menu, it's not too much trouble; just not ideal. 😉

EDIT2: Actually... are you positive about that Weed? I just edited a post (without the mod tools), and it changed the thread title as well. Perhaps it just automatically does this for mods, though? Hmm..

I've had Firefox reliably freeze for a dozen or more seconds on some javascript as well, but only on one machine.

If I recall firebug's reporting right, it was vbulletin_md5.js.

Another thing with resolved posts, which is a little bit annoying, is when you use RSS feed. My RSS reader marks [RESOLVED] posts as new ones, even though the same post is there as well without the prefix. I think it's because the title changes.
