Creating a calender with the brainpower of a clam...

I would like to create an online calendar for a friend. It needs to be able to add notes on each day and if possible highlight the boxes.

That's all.

I promise, I have checked all the posts on this site. I have gone through Google. I have done everything I can. I'm looking for a link to a tutorial, a script that needs little customization or some sort of magical dwarf that could come and do it for me. 😃

I really have no clue on anything practical in PHP yet, and what's more I have a horrible feeling that this task could include mySQL and database-y things.... :queasy:

You people have been so helpful before, any chance you could be again??

Why don't you simply tell your friend to use Google Calendar ? He simply needs to sign up for a Gmail account and go to http://calendar.google.com/ !

Unfortunately, despite the apparent simplicity of creating a calendar it is actually quite complex. Nevertheless, here's a good tutorial: http://www.phpfreaks.com/tutorials/83/0.php ...but don't be surprised if you encounter lots of complicated and unfamiliar aspects of php (most notably the date/time functions).

Yup; fiddly little things, like how many blank spaces there are on the last row of a given month's calendar..... For this year it's 4, 4, 1, 6, 3, 1, 5, 2, 0 (or 7), 4, 2, and 6 - and that's assuming that Monday is the first day of the week.

Right, I'll get to that tutorial. My friend wants it all to be hosted on their web server, so Google calendar isn't an option unfortunately...
