is_numeric $ setlocal

Im having trouble with is_numeric and commas

say i have this: 15,50
I would like this to be evalued as numeric
also 1.600,50 should be considered numeric

However , are standardly not recognized while dots are.
When trying to change this with setlocal i get no effect:
setlocale(LC_ALL, 'nl_NL');

still 15,50 is not seen as a number.

Any ideas how to get around this?

Well, you could use [man]preg_split/man to split the string by ",", ".", "-", "/" and then check each array value to see if it's numeric. If it is, then the string itself must be numeric; otherwise it's not.

That might be an option, not a bad solution. Thinking about writing a little function to do that🙂

To test we could also simply remove both . and , is this function the most appropriate for this or should i use a different one?

My general inclination would be to convert any such value into a "normal" (as far as PHP is concerned) float or integer value, then use [man]number_format/man or [man]printf/man as needed to output the value in any desired format.
