sending mail using phpmailer

Hi

I am using gmail smptp to send mail using phpmailer and I am getting following error.

Message was not sent
Mailer Error: The following From address failed: [e-mail]

My code is as follwos

are you actually using a gmail address as from address? gmail requires you to use different ports than the default ones: for SMTP it wants 465
- maybe that's your problem.

I have added

$mail->SMTPPort = "465";

to the code and changed php.ini also then also I am getting the same error.
Where and how to define port other than this?

Are you sure that $mail->SMTPAuth = true; is correct? I just ask because the SMTP account that I use (not gmail) does not use authentication.

GMail is a different beast - they use SSL and authentication.

I believe this might be the problem - PHPMailer might not be able to handle SSL connections. You might need to use something like XPertMailer which has "optional autentication and TLS/SSL support."
