Displaying XML/XSLT data via PHP $_GET ?

I am rather new to PHP/etc, and I have searched about but can't seem to find a clear answer to what I hope to do. Here is a simplified example, I am storing data in xml, let's say they're book descriptions, and one of my xml tags then is <author>.

The dream I am shooting for is by using $_GET I can have a php page were if I type the url as ending in ?author=frank, the page will show all of my books in the xml file that have frank as the author. That way I can have links for every author, all going to one page. I was planning on using xslt for my xml-to-php legwork.

I suppose my problem is I can't seem to find a good resource on how to manipulate xml/xslt in php. I hope that makes sense and that I'm not using all the terms utterly wrong, and looking like an idiot in the process 😃

If by "xml-to-php" you're meaning that you want to use XSLT to turn the XML into a PHP data structure, it's unnecessary; you can use one of the existing XML parsers (particularly the DOM and simplexml extensions) to do that. Depending on the XML structure, finding all the books with a given author would then be a matter of a single XPath query.

As for resources: I'm not immediately aware of any that relate to PHP specifically; personally I just tend to start from the original specifications and then check to see how PHP implements them (the interfaces tend to be pretty standardised).
