[RESOLVED] Help: file_exists doesn't work with some images

I have a script that checks to see if an image exists and if not returns a placeholder.

Only some images aren't recognised by file_exists

It's definitely the image itself. I've tried renaming one that works to the name of one that doesn't and vice versa, and the same images are found/not found.

Can anyone point me in the direction of what might be going on?

Here's an image that does work:
