mod rewrite help. Fake Folder to php page

I am trying to the following.

I would like it to take the user to
http://www.gnulinux.co.uk/news.php

RewriteEngine On
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteBase /news/
RewriteRule /http://www.gnulinux.co.uk/news.php

I nearly getting it. Once I know how to do this I can apply it to other things.
