Find a Tag

Hello everybody,

I need some help. I'd like to know how to extract a tag from an URL.

For eg,
If i enter the URL http://youtube.com/watch?v=dYhhQhtrlFI
I'd like the EMBED tag from the page to be extracted.

(i.e) When i enter the URL in a field and hit the submit button, i want the EMBED code to be stored in variable.

How do i do it ?

This is not stealing.
Anyone is allowed to embed youtube videos on their site.

Got this off youtube site:

You could easily just do this:

echo '<object width="425" height="350">
<param name="movie" value="'.$link.'"></param>
<param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param>
<embed src="'.$link.'" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350">
</embed></object>';

I haven't tested it, but it should work.

Even others like veoh.com vimeo.com metacafe.com ifilm.com etc...

Basically, he wants to emulate a service such as KeepVid.

I don't know how else to do it other than visit each of the different sites you want to be able to grab the info from and then custom fit a regexp for each site.

You will need to use file_get_contents() and then use a regular expression to select the embeded video from the string of html that you will get with that function.

use the http://uk2.php.net/manual/en/function.preg-grep.php function for your regex i think

But, in none of the video sharing sites i find the direct EMBED code in the source code.

but they ALL have it in a input box or something so you can copy it onto your site. so its there.

EDIT: In the link you gave at the start i found it easy, did you even look in the source code?

open source code, hit ctrl + f (on windows) and enter embed. easy 😉

EDIT2: oo, on looking at the you tube embed, its just the ur for the site as the src.... so it would be easy to re-create.
