Question about user-input boxes

Hi all,

I need to be able to make a site where folks can enter in accent marks and non-english characters in the text boxes alongside of characters from other languages. I envision an input box kind of like the one i'm using to right this thread, but instead of smiley faces everywhere there would be a menu of options to choose from depending on the character set you wanted to use, and then once you do you'd see all those characters and marks on the side or something, where you could point and click (or just type them on your keyboard).

Its very difficult to explain what I want, if anyone can decipher my meaning please drop a hint to me 🙂

So that you can enter things like ۞, Д, œ, ♫, ﺞ, א, and yes, even ☺, into text boxes like this one?

Yes, this is exactly what I want to be able to do. I do know that you can use certain keyboard combinations to make these characters, but I want folks to be able to make these characters without having to know them.
