Nearly cracked this .htaccess

I am slowly getting to grips with .htaccess, and I mean slowly.

However I have run in to an error with one rewrite rule. I cannot see for the life of me what I am doing wrong here.

When someone enters http://www.gnulinux.co.uk/articles/{category}

I would like this to send the user to whatever category they enter after articles/ in the URL

Proper Url
articles.php?category={category}

This is my Rewrite rule so far.
RewriteRule ^{articles/(.)/(.)/$} /articles.php?$1=$2

Your RewriteRule as it stands works like this:

Entered URL: http://yoursite.com/articles/match1/match2/
Translated to: http://yoursite.com/articles.php?match1=match2

So, basically, you just need to get rid of one of the b[/b] groups in your pattern, and instead of $1=$2 you'd simply have category=$2 .

Note that if you include a trailing slash in your regexp pattern, it must be included in the URL. To make it optional, add a question mark after it.

EDIT: I would highly recommend you check out this tutorial regarding regular expression syntax. I've found it (and the rest of that website) to be highly useful.
