[RESOLVED] MySQL Convert DateTime to Readable data by average joe

Hey guys. I searched the forum and I am sure this is in there somewhere, but I can't find it.

I need to convert a datetime (i.e. 2007-05-03 02:09:12) to something an average guy can read (i.e. 05/03/2007 2:09 AM) thru the MYSQL Select statement.

Is that possible? If not, how would I do it thru PHP?

date_format()

Oh yes, the ISO8601 date format that mysql uses is designed to be accurately readable by 'average joes' across all regions and cultures, as opposed to your prefered format which could be dd/mm/yyyy or mm/dd/yyyy depending on where you live.

Ahh yes and thanks, I have used Date_Format with regular dates many times, for instance DATE_FORMAT(j.DateAdded,'%b-%d-%Y') as NewDateAdded

however, I need some help getting the Date_Format function to format a DateTime field in the way I specified..... it seems very tricky and I have spent too much time on it, that is why I come here, for a specific example.

SELECT DATE_FORMAT(datecol, '%m/%d/%Y %h:%i %p') AS whatever

should do it
