I have tried this out in the following way:
$today = strtotime(date("Y/m/d"));
SELECT * FROM calendardate WHERE x < $today
This executes, however it still brings up results from the past!!!!
Any more thoughts?

$today = strtotime(date("Y/m/d"));
SELECT * FROM calendardate WHERE x > $today
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
