sending data via url - without leaving page

I have this link:

http://somesite.com/data/page.php?some_data=xxxxxx

I usually put it in a meta redirect in the header. I replace the xxxxx with some data I extract from mysql, and then the redirect sends me to that url, and passes the info properly.

I'm kinda tired of the redirection, and would like to simply pass the data in the url - as usual - but without leaving my current page.

Can this be accomplished? Or am I limited to a redirect to pass data in a url?

look in to AJAX ... it is easy to implement via AJAX
