Newbie sticky note recommendation.. perhaps?

I was thinking, for the Newbies section, I have noticed that there is a consistant issue with informing people about SQL Injection, do you think it would be worth while to keep that in ther? or perhaps to the Bookmarked threads.

I know until it was pointed out to my it was completely unknown.

We already have something about it in the newbies forum FAQ, though it is rather undeveloped (and I notice that that part was written by me :o ). That said, I wonder how many newbies actually read the FAQ before posting.

Oh, and a second recommendation.. sorry, I was thinking, since you guys have thread subscriptions which sends you an email of the threads contents, is there a way to have a thread option to have one message sent to your email? perhaps "Oh I want to remember this" (but im at work).

I can already answer one downside to that, too many emails going out.. but if the thread subscriptions do...

Well, you could subscribe to the thread, if the problem is trying to find it in the listings once you get home.

I agree. But as it is now it is not possible to reference FAQs since it is old information.

An idea is to have a new subforum set up with only FAQs where normal people can only read, to avoid lots of unnessecary information. Then it is possible to have lots of FAQs that is only a few posts long instead of one long FAQ covering everything. The result with one long FAQ is that people just won't read it, with lots of FAQs it is possible that either the person in need for help find the right FAQ or that regular posters can reference to it.

If it's old because people don't ask those questions any more, it's evidence that they're working.

Yes, what I'm suggesting is what was discussed in that topic.

I don't mean that it is old because people are not asking. I mean that some of the things can be done in better ways with newer versions of PHP. As an example the first post in this FAQ talks about MySQL and uses the mysql functions. It is ok, but I think it should be added a row that with PHP 5 and MySQL 5 it is better to use mysqli functions and the reasons why.

I agree with updating the FAQ's. A lot of new users are unable to distinguish between PHP4 and PHP5, and why it is better to use certain methods.

Additionally I would recommend discussing the differences between MySQL and MS SQL. Not overly common, perhaps, but I'm sure there are plenty of people out there with it. For instance, SQL Injection, completely different than MySQL's fixes.
