"to tell a friend"

In many e-commerce systems, there is a feature "to tell a friend", you could email the product information to a friend through an online form.

Of course, this email script should check all the validation to avoid email header injection attacks etc.

My question is that there are so many spams today, will "to tell a friend" feature do your site good or bad now? As a user, will you open an email like this if a friend of you asking a site to send "to tell a friend" email to you?

Honestly, the only reason I like the 'tell a friend' feature is that it provides a quick way for me to remind myself about something I've found without having to add a bookmark that I will never look at. The last time I opened a "your friend has recommended a link" message was on MySpace, and it ended up being one of those scripts that just emails the same message to everyone on your friends list. So I will never open one of these unless I've sent it to myself.

so instead of use the term "to tell a friend", we could use the term "email this article" or "email this product information" etc. People could email it to himself/herself. Or a friend if they want.
