My suggestion would be to uninstall PHP through Add/Remove Programs (if it appears), and delete the directory where you installed PH (e.g. c:\Program Files\PHP) if it reamins.
Then, download the zipped version and install PHP manually. If you follow the instructions in the manual, it's very easy to do.
