I want to set up a website so that me and my friends can all log on and chat with a webcam and send messages to each other.

Im not sure how to do this. Most information im finding is not very helpful. Would i need some specific software to run on the server that will recognise that the recipient has a webcam / how can i do it.

A point in the right direction would be appreciated!

Well, you'd need a software package to recognize (and know what to do with) a web-cam feed from the web-browser.

To that end, what's wrong with creating an AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, Skype, ICQ, Jabber, or whatever chat-room for you and your friends that way? Seems to me, that'd be much easier.

Well i want to learn how it all works and i want to be able to customize it to. Do you know of any free software that can do this?

I don't know of any free open source software that will do it.

          Consider: http://api.azooca.com

Azooca API is a PHP programming set that supports the capture and playback of Webcam video.

FYI Disclosure: I am an employee.

          Cheers.

          Phil.
