[RESOLVED] Memory Limit Message

Is there a way for the server to know when the memory limit is hit and then display a message of my choosing where I want it? Currently the page just goes blank, or displays a notice if i have display_errors set.

You can probably determine if this happens by using [man]set_error_handler[/man] and writing your own error handler.

EDIT: Err.. then again, maybe not...

I'm not sure if it'll work - you might want to test it. The manual says that the E_ERROR type cannot be handled by a custom error handler. I don't remember offhand what error type the out-of-memory error is.

I believe it can't handle parse errors and the like. But I know if this won't work then my above question is a no.

Well there's always some failsafes you could try and implement. For example, if there's a specific task that you know consumes a lot of memory and may exceed the limit (e.g. opening a JPEG image with the GD library), you can use [man]set_memory_limit/man to dynamically increase the limit.

I am increasing the limit already, but I want a failsafe if some guy uploads an image 6000 X 6000 to say "hey you exceeded that". Because you can save such a file with low quality, the file size itself would still be relatively low, but the act of resizing it is what makes the memory fail.

At that point, I would say you need to implement both dimension restrictions and filesize restrictions ([man]getimagesize/man and [man]filesize/man can help you here).
