Getting started with PHP & Ms Access integration

Hi All

M totally new to php....but am willing to learn...

I have to develop an automated library catalog system (for educational purpose)....its not taught how i have to do it but i have to do it all on my own....using Ms Access and Php......

I have surfed the web a lot and have seen lots of tutorials regarding php.....but what I fail to understand how it all works.....m a bit confused😕

I believe that if i have to start I have to start from the very basic as to understand this concept of php and databases.........after that comes the coding.........

so can some one please answer a the following question so that i can get to my design part......Now that I have designed a database in Ms Access......and I have started developing my web pages using Dreamweaver MX2004.

1) Firstly, do I have to download php4.10 on my computer.....and write my web pages in it or can i write my codes in Dreamweaver and save it with .php extension...........

2) I work from home on my personal computer which has internet connection from the local ISP....
...i tried saving a page with .php extension but wen i do F12 i get message saying to preview pages using server side code you need to specify a testing server.......
....my college has a local Intranet and it is there that i have to do my final presentation...........but I create my site at home on my PC.....so will there be any problems when I transfer my site form home to college.....

if someone can let me know the above....your guidance would be appreciated

If you wish to test locally the PHP scripts, you will need to download php 4.4.7 (the latest release) and install it into your webserver (IIS probably). Otherwise, you can create your scripts in Dreamweaver (or any other text program) and save it as a .php file, then upload to your website and test there.

You should find out what version of PHP your college is running (probably the latest release (4.4.7) and should set up a local testing server with IIS and php 4. IIS is the Windows equivalent of Apache. You can use either server (Apache, IIS), most here use Apache. There are some pre-built servers known as WAMP and XAMPP. You can use those as well.

sure it does help,clears out wat i gota do next.

I think i'll stick to doing my scripts in Dreamweaver, saving as .php files for now and will find out wats running @college.

M still at a beginner phase and learning on my own so the learning process is bit slow but i will get there eventually and later if i have any technical difficulties in testing or the codings i'l get in touch....
