Loop in a define

I'm struggling on the syntax for adding in a loop to a define statement.

Is there a way to do this? I'm looking to do something like the following

define("NAME_LIST", " while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result) {
echo $row['username'];
} ");

But that does not work.

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to do?

Are you trying to make an array or the names? or just make a string with the names?

Basically I am developing a site and the way it is stuctured it uses constants to store the main content for a page. Then that constant is called to the main page.

So all I want to do is store the output from a loop in the constant.

Hope that makes it a bit more clear.

Do you mean something like that?

Yeah that looks like it would work.

Would it work if i mixed html in there as well. For example

define("NAME_LIST", "Here are all the users<br />$temp<br />")

Sounds like the coder who chose to use [man]constants[/man] would do well in investing in a dictionary.

Just to clear my name, ha ha

I didn't start the site from scratch I'm adding to somone else's work and it does work really well with constants for everything else as they dont change.

I wanted to add in a dynamic list for the latest news stories etc so needed to keep with the same format of storing this in a constant.

Not the greatest way to use them I know but needs must when the devil drives I guess.
