I have a form that POSTs the form elements to a search results page. On the search results page the user clicks an item to view more details. however when on this screen, the user clicks the back button (in IE) they always get a page cannot be displayed page which looks unprofessional.

What is the best way to ensure that this does not happen? I need to maintain the firendly URl structure i have in place so I cannot start using GET and passing the values via the URL.

As a work around, can you open the 'more details' in a new window, inform the user that is how it works and remind them they need to allow pop-ups for your site ?

Not as elegant as I would like, but I don't know a way round the Form POST issue.

ya, another one of microsofts "security" features in their Internet explorer.

Basically POST puts the variables into the memory of the browser instead of in the URL string. while IE allows you to do it, it doent like you comming to a page with data already in memory.

the browser SHOULD pop up and ask if you'd like to resubmit post data. Just say yes
