Looking for a charting tutorial

I am looking to build some charts using GD.. while there are a plethora of pre-made scripts out there I want to build my own.

I've been googling for tutorials that cover the basics of using GD and the math behind making charts but I'm coming up empty handed.

Are there any good tut's out there that I can use to help me?

well maybe someone can help me... what im looking for is simply this:

a horizontal bar chart that has two items on one bar...

e.g.

[some amount][another amount]

id need the amounts shown in the middle of the bars and obviously each section of the bar would have to be a diff color

there would only be one bar...

yea but if i use that, i dont really learn HOW to make the graph... i learn how to use someone elses program

id rather learn the method and understand it b4 taking shortcuts
