why would you ever not use symfony

i've been looking at symfony lately and it just seems great
a great deal of automation in there to replace repetitive tasks

why would you ever not use symfony?

When you want something completely custom without all the frills 😉

I don't use any frameworks. I create my own geared toward the specific tasks I want it to do. That way, there's no extra code to parse, or download or whatever. Plus, my employer kinda makes me do it 😉

one nice function i really like is the automatization in creating forms.
without any help, i really hate creating forms. its just a pain.
server side validation
client side validation
putting the input back in the form when there is an error
argh:S

symfony makes it really easy and i dont know any standalone package which comes close.

Doing it once, sure.
Doing it twice, you see a pattern developing.
Doing it thrice, you write a library to automate doing it for the fourth, fifth, .... nth times.

And it gives you another library to tinker with for your own amusement.

indeed im looking to find out what it doesnt do well, before i get into it to deeply.

so you are saying the form helpers dont allow for enough customization, good.

I like the reference documentation:

And as for the PDF.... again, I'm betting that no-one responsible for it has ever looked at it.

I wonder about noobs who start using something like Symphony right off the bat...even get good with it. And then, need to do something truly custom.

Can they?

I use a stripped down framework...like BPat, I just build it up for the particular project. Seriously, it usually takes a couple days to make it do what's needed...and it doesn't look like MS designed it.

I think if they had these frameworks around when I first started out, I never would have learned much...and I would have turned into a 'plugin' junkie.
