I'll be hosting a live e-seminar this Thursday discussing PHP as the backend to Flex based rich Internet applications (RIAs). I'm going to talk a bit about rich Internet applications, show you what is being built today, and then show you how you can build PHP services for RIAs. I'll be showing Adobe Flex applications, but the techniques will work equally well for any RIA technology, including Ajax, Silverlight, XUL etc...

You need to register for the e-seminar at http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/event/index.cfm?event=detail&id=462539&loc=en_us

You can learn more about Flex and PHP at http://www.flex.org/php/

Thank you for your attempt to bring the light to us poor lost souls. You will find that most of the experienced members on this board use text editors to build their applications and have been doing amazing things for years without much more than a text editor and a LAMP setup. For our less experienced community members, your tool could be a solution.

I detect a slight tone of sarcasm.

If you want to use a text editor, you can still use that and use the free (and soon to be open source) Flex SDK to build solutions. The compiler and debugger are included, and both will be open source (MPL) with Flex 3. Flex Builder is not required to build Flex applications.

Here are 4 companies that are using Flex and PHP together:
      Yahoo Maps - http://maps.yahoo.com
      Activa Live Chat - http://www.activalive.com
      SeeSpotSlide - http://www.seespotslide.com
      Finetune - http://www.finetune.com

        that's me! hehe

I have nothing against all in one solutions or frameworks or IDEs etc. I generally wait and see. The problem is that we have members experience ranging from none to guruistic (international neologism day). Some of the less experienced members could think that using a solution such as a simple IDE would make their life a lot easier. I tend to think that before you buy a factory, you have to start with a few tools and sharpen your craft. Using any high end solution requires a development process and discipline that only grease under fingers can bring. I guess I'm a bit old school on that aspect.

Also, we have a large number of europeans working on PHP here and 12 pacific means 21 CET and most will be at the pubs or doing what they do in the evening. Having a euro timed demo would be a nice idea.

        Good luck.

The session will be recorded, so you should be able to watch it at your leisure. I'll post the URL when I know it.

I signed up...I'm curious. I doubt I'll learn much new, but it's worthy of a little time.
