[RESOLVED] Hours To Man days

OK ,, i know this is prob easy but i've looked around and can't find what i am looking for, plus i'm a little bit of a newb.

I have a group of total hours for a bunch of workers,, i.e each is like 280 hrs
and i need to display these set of hours in another way ,
i need to display them in total man days instead ,,, and a man day for me is 6.5 hours

now i know i can just divide 280 by 6.5 in php but that gives me something like
43.076923076923076923076923076923

i need it to output in a format something like 43 days + 1 hour (or minutes if less than an hour)

how do i accomplish this in php..?

any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Normally I would think you'd just want to round it to some arbitrary precision, as it's much easier to do calculations with a single unit of measure:

$manDays = round($hours / 6.5, 1);  // 1 decimal place

But if you truly want mixed units, then maybe something like:

$manDays = floor($hours / 6.5);
$manHours = round($hours % 6.5, 0);
printf("<p>%d days, %d hours</p>\n", $manDays, $manHours);

ok that gives me an accurate man day count but the remainder is still off.

i.e.

if i have 30 hours

and i use your code i get a total of 4 mandays,, but not the remainder hours.

4mandays x 6.5 = 26

i still have 4 remaining hours unaccounted for

i need to format my result like this 4days, 4hours

so i sorta figured it out now thanks to your above post,, its prob a longer way of doing it and you prob know a prettier version of the same thing but bare with me.


$hours = "30.5";

$manDayz = floor($hours / 6.5);

$x = $manDayz * 6.5;

$manHours = round($hours - $x, 1);

echo "<p>$manDayz days, $manHours hours</p>\n";

This gives me 4 days, 4.5 hours ,, which is accurate.
But now what if he actually wants to put 30.25 hours.. lol i guess i just move the decimal up on the round to 2 eh!

lol i should have been able to figure this out on my own it was just basic math,, lol to many hours in front of a screen makes me loose my mind and panic sometimes..

if you have any suggestions to pretty this up a bit ( or shorten this ) they are greatly appreciated.

Forgot to mention,

printf("<p>%d days, %d hours</p>\n", $manDayz, $manHours);

wouldn't print out the 4.5 hours would always just say 4 hours.

had to just use

echo "<p>$manDayz days, $manHours hours</p>\n";

to get the correct output.

Using echo is fine, though if you wanted to use printf() with .5 for hours it could be:

printf("<p>%d days, %f hours</p>\n", $manDayz, $manHours);

See the PHP manual on format specifiers for [man]sprintf/man.

In addition to the printf() format string change, you would also change this:

$manHours = round($hours % 6.5, 0);

line of code to reflect the number of decimal places you want. More information on doing that can be found on the manual page for [man]round/man.
