Html emails vs. Non-html

I've sent out html emails and I have had a few people tell me they can't see the html, only the raw code. I imagine it's easy to tell them to activate viewing their emails in html.

But, is there a way for the code to distinguish between emails that do not view the html properly? How can I fix this situation?

Please excuse the obvious question, but are you sending your HTML e-mails with the proper MIME type (text/html)?

Also, you can send both plain text and HTML in separate sections, letting the mail viewer select which to display based on its abilities and configuration settings. Being lazy and not wanting to spend time mastering the ins and outs of mail protocols, I use the PHPMailer class and its applicable methods to handle the details of such things.

I'm with NogDog. Dealing with the nuts and bolts of e-mail is probably one of the seven circles of hell. Definitely use an established pre-built mail handling class.
