Pay before you upload?

I have a basic Upload script where a user Browses his desktop, selects a file to upload and Submits it. And then returns to any page I direct them to.

I'd like to modify this so that the user is required to first make a small paypal payment before uploading is allowed, each time.

Any thoughts on how I might accomplish this?

Using PayPal's IPN you could check for the posting of paypals info to your script. Obviously you'd have to be careful enough to do session validation and all that so you don't get people to send fake post information to your script.

For the others, I'm not quite sure....

Authenticate your users - require them to have a certain amount of credit before they can upload.

When the paypal IPN or PDT (see paypal integration docs for more detail) notification arrives, add the credit into the appropriate user's account as necessary. This usually turns up almost immediately (unless there is a failure; IPN will retry until it succeeds.).

Then the authenticated user can upload while they have enough credit etc.
