[RESOLVED] Hello, please help. Cant get PHP to work.

Ok guys. Going totally crazy trying to get PHP to work.

My OS is Windows XP, I have installed XAMPP and done al the necessary things, and i have ensured that Apache and Filezilla and MySQl are all running. I have done the http://localhost test and this works fine.

So why oh why, cant I get my php docs to work?

I have:

1. Ensured that they are saved as php format, AND created and saved in Notepad.
2. Opened it in my internet browser, which is FireFox.

What I do is

1. create a doc with php, save it as .php. I then try and open it in my web browser.

I am totally new to PHP so if there is some glaringly obvious error, I am sorry for my stupidity lol.

I am really keen to learn PHP, having just tackled C++, and its a real pity that I cant start because of such a dumb problem. Love the site, hope someone replies, and nice to meet you all ! 🙂

You must save the .php files in the htdocs directory (somewhere under the XAMPP directory) or one of its sub-directories, then call it from your browsers address line as "http://localhost/filename.php" (or if it's in a sub-directory of htdocs as "http://localhost/directory_name/filename.php"). You cannot open the file from the "File -> Open File" menu option, or by double-clicking the file's icon from a filesystem folder window.

That has now solved my problem, and I have PHP fully workng.
