PHP Page Variables?

I have a quick question about how PHP can work to link to different pages. And to help the explanation process, I'm going to give a simple example from Youtube:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=6gmP4nk0EOE

With that, the variable is called v? And it is equal to the long list of characters, which leads to a certain video. However, what page is the variable "v" contained on?

If I have this concept completely wrong, please correct me.

The variable is set in the URL

in a page if i have

$_get['id'];

and the url is http://localhost/test.php?id=1

and on test.php i have

<?php
 $idget = $_get['id'];

echo $idget;
?>

so it depends on what you do in that page with the variable, on youtube it probably links to a database, which picks up the username and video file for the user and they echo it out on the page.

Ohh okay. See, I wasn't sure if the variable was put into a different page and how to use it(whether it be global or not), but thanks for clearing that up!

Note that the array variable name is all capitals: $_GET.
