Warning System

Perhaps I'm not a vB guru, but is there not a way we can "warn" people? Like for when they have posts that are completely against the AUP, we can issue a warning. Three warnings in like 2 weeks, you get a temp-ban. Three more warnings in another 2 weeks, you get banned.

Obviously you'd need the warnings to be able to "pass" and be irrelevant (like say they're around for 4 weeks, then they nullify themselves). I think it could help, but haven't seen anything in vB.....

I have worked with several vB forums and there is a system in them called infractions,

It works by Appling “penalty points” to a users profile; these can be temporary over a certain amount of time, or permanent.

In most of the systems I worked on I made 10 the total, if you reached 10 at any point you would be permanently banned.

The up side to this system is that other users cannot see who has points (it can be hidden) and when the user is banned; if their email address is recorded they cannot use the same email to register again (depending on the settings).

Just edit the post and put the reason for editing in the slot provided for that. Our policy is warn once, suspend, ban. Spammers are the exception, no warning, permanent ban, no explanation. They know what to expect.
