Connect and read database on PC

we are developing a web based software,.

Some iformation (say cost of machine is generated usinq PC based Software)

I need to connect to this PC based software and send certain parameters

and avil the cost computed by this PC based program

OR

Otherway around

The PC based progaram to read details required from web based program and transfer the rates

which will used for futher calculation by web based program

Is thsi possible ..

Well, PHP Is a server side language, so it cannot go into a clients machine and gather information. What it can do is send and request information to/from other servers, so your solution would have to be as you suggested, have the PC you are requesting information from have the information readyly available. Be it either pass the information to a server, or have the PC be a server and have PHP request information from it in what ever format you require.

How this is accomplished is really dependent on what will be serving the information to the web application, and the web application itself.
what will probably help you out the most is combining client side and server side languages and have some sort of rally point for the information
