Why is it that whenever a name a .phps file and click on a link to open it in my browser, it gives me a prompt to download it.

I was looking at a page and clicked on a link for a .phps file and I displayed the code with syntax highlighting, with my, it prompts for a download. Why is this? I just inserted my php code into the document, saved it as modsource.phps and uploaded it. What's wrong?

You would need to configure your server. You could read what is suggested in the PHP manual concerning [man]highlight_file/man and .phps
