[RESOLVED] UTF-8 makes php add wierd symbols after require().

How is everybody? Good? That's nice. OK, here is my problem.

As some of you may know (for those of you that have been following my threads...) I recently changed my php file formats to UTF-8.

And then, for a moment - sweet - life was good.

Let there be headache...

THE PROBLEM It seems that doing that made PHP create, by itself if I may add - cause I didn't bloody ask it to! - some weird characters at the top of the html document page.

Yes that's right, at the top; just enough to mess my otherwise perfect XHTML strict document - am I the only one that is starting to think that these errors and strange behaviours from programs are intentionally created to maximize one's frustration?

Why? God, can someone tell me WHY?! I am a really nice guy - really - why do I have to put of with this kind of...

Hmm... It seems to because of the fact that I am saving the files with "BOM"
(http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=22108).

Now the question is if this is "fixed" in newer versions of PHP 5.0...

There we go... All files saved without BOM, and all seems to be in its order; God knows what the butterfly effect of this is going to be...

Another mission well done.

... But who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Just FYI, in UTF-8 the BOM is essentially superfluous, as UTF-8 does not have any byte order issues. As long as you are identifying the "charset" in a content-type meta tag or HTTP header, you should have no problems.
