php sessions

hi every one;
im yaffa and im soo new with php thing; i used sessions in my php scripts.
but it doesnt work!!
here is my test code:in the first script :

@session_start();
$SESSION['name']='haneen';
echo '[<a href ="test.php"> TEST</a>]'
?>
and in the second:
<?php
@session_start();
if (isset($POST['name'])) {
echo "i have session";
}

echo $_SESSION['name'];
$date= date("l \t\h\e jS");
echo '<br>'.$date;

?>
i dont know, is there any special configuration that enable me to use sessions

Start by getting rid of the "@" characters so that error-reporting is not suppressed, to find out if the PHP parser has some errors it would like to tell you about. You may also need to turn on full error reporting by adding the following lines to the top of each script:

thanx v much. but it i dont understand the warning that dispalyed on my IE:

Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: Cannot send session cookie - headers already sent by (output started at C:\xampp\htdocs\t\page2.php:8) in C:\xampp\htdocs\t\page2.php on line 11

and when i open the session file on the temp folder i find it empty!

so, what the problem?!

As stated on the [man]session_start/man page:

Note: If you are using cookie-based sessions, you must call session_start() before anything is outputted to the browser.

The "before anything is outputted to the browser" not only means echo/print statements within your PHP code, but also any text outside of your <?php ... ?> tags, including spaces and newlines. Therefore, your scripts need to have a "<?php" as the very first thing in the script (no spaces or newlines before it) and the session_start() before you output anything.

it didnt work!
now i can see it in the session folder but i when i check it using isset
it returns false.
any body had this problem before?

use session_register(); before you set the variables.

session_start();
session_register("var1", "var2", "var3");
$_SESSION['var1'] = 'foo';
$_SESSION['var2'] = 'bar';
$_SESSION['var3'] = '123';

NO.

Please read all the "Cautions" on the [man]session_register[/man] page, including:

If you are using $_SESSION (or $HTTP_SESSION_VARS), do not use session_register(), session_is_registered(), and session_unregister().

No up-to-date, best-practices PHP script should be using those functions.
