I found myself, not being very pleased with current freelancing sites, such as elance and getafreelancer.

Problem with fixing this is that the marketing for such a site is sort of a circle, which can be hard to breakthrough.

However what do you guys think, should there be a new freelancing site and what features would you like?

Not completely clear about what you're asking. Are you thinking of building, promoting, and running a new freelance site? If so, then good luck. Personally I've found a few projects to do on the side through Guru.com and have been happy with the experience. The other sites tend to be overrun by "lowball artists".

The biggest problem I have found with such sites is the money on offer - way too low. Of course there are folk in India, Indonesia, etc for whom $100 is a lot of money so how can I compete with that when the work can be done anywhere.

my company outsourced to india a project that would take 2 months for me to do.
it was going to cost us here about 20k to develop between 3 people, over there they did it for 1500 where a dozen or so people turned it out like crap in a matter of the same amount of time.

the outsourcing thing is killing it.
sorry to all you international readers, I dont blame yall though, we're all just trying to put food on our table. The companies on the other hand, are raping us blind.

Yeah, coulda been the "Delhi belly" that made them turn that project around so fast... 😉 Maybe we American developers should eat at Denny's more often...
