CSS Hotlinking parts of an Image

HI all,

Hope this is the right forum to post..

Ive a site designed and Im using a footer image (say 800 x 100 px). Within that image, there are 5/6 squares that I need to hotlink to seperate websites. The way I have the code set up is to display the footer as a layer, so to hotlink them, Im pretty sure I need to put it in the CSS page.. does anyone have a tutorial or can point me in the right direction to achieve this?

frankly I don't see much advantage in using this technique over the old standard HTML image map
