functions to convert [IMG] and [URL] tags

I am trying to figure out how to convert the URL and IMG bb tags to the correct code. I have tried converting links to hyperlinks and that works, but it messes up the image codes and tries to make a link out of those too.

I haven't done it in a long time, but I noticed from the syntax highlighter, your variables are named $bb-replace and $bb-replacements. Try taking those hyphens out, $bbReplace, $bbReplacements, or something like that. I remember I had a few problems implementing their code but I used their idea and it worked out well enough for basic functions.

ok, is there any way that I can convert anything that ends with .jpg, .gif, .png, and .bmp to be converted to the <img> command, and everything else to the <a href>command?

It'd be trickier... you could add an tag, but otherwise you'd need some nastily intense regular expressions, I wouldn't be able to help you write them. Someone here probably can, otherwise, you're on your own. 😃

would anyone know how to change anything that ends with an image extension to the <img> command without conflicting with existing <img> commands?

example:
http://www.thesite.com/myimage.jpg = change to image tag
<img src="http://www.thesite.com/myimage.jpg"> = Left alone unchanged.

Same goes with all other image extentions.

I am also wanting to convert all other URL's to hyperlinks leaving the ones that are already in the <a href command alone.

You'll need to use a regular expression of some kind. It'll be a nasty headfuck, and I can't write it because I don't know regex well enough. Read up on them if no one here can do it for you, but what you'll need to match is:

if <img src="http://*.jpg|png|gif|bmp" - don't match this, cause it has the img tag in front

you'll need a rule that can pick out image-ending URI's that don't have <img src=" in front of them, and have it be able to grab them regardless of http:// or lack of, as well as www or other subdomains. Maybe something space-based, but it's gonna be tricky to write. If you can't find anything, maybe look through some source code on CMS/bb systems - phpBB does this automatically with URI's, I believe, so it should be simple enough to modify to fit your needs if you can find it. If/when you do, post it back here, if you could.
